I love greek mythology and the myth of Medusa is one that is very interesting to me. It's better than any soap opera, with love, lust, jealousy, revenge and sadness. Medusa was once the beautiful priestess to Athena, who was the daughter of Zeus. Medusa fell in love and married Poseidon but Athena was jealous and angry so Athena put a curse on Medusa. She turned her golden curls into venomous snakes and made it to where anyone that looked into her eyes turn to stone. Medusa was forced to run away and live in solitude because of the curse. It's a very tragic story but I loved the idea of creating my own Medusa. Her green skin and venomous snake hair are scary, cool and fierce. I'm scared to death of snakes myself but even I can't deny they are beautiful Creatures. I believe if you can find something positive in something you fear it makes it a little less scary.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial

The first step in creating this Snake skin and Medusa nail art was putting down my base colors. I chose a pretty jade green for the snake skin nails and a shimmery gray for the Medusa background.

The second step was creating the realistic snake skin. After the green polish was dry I took a thin detail art brush and painted the scales one by one with black acrylic paint. I then did shading with different mixed shades of brown and scale was then accented with a bright metallic green polish which I thinned out with acetone. Once dry I finished them off with a wipe free glossy gel top coat.

Step three was making Medusa come to life. I took a detail art brush and thinned down white acrylic paint and "sketched" out the outline of her figure and her snake hair.

Step four I began filling her in. Her body was done using a fleshed toned acrylic paint and the dress was done with black acrylic paint. Her snake hair is the same jade green nail polish as the snake skin nails.

Step 5 is all about shading. Her body and facial features are done with different shades of green acrylic paint that I mixed together as needed. Her lips are red nail polish. The snakes are then shaded with different greens and browns of acrylic paints and then accented with the same metallic green nail polish.

The final step that really brings Medusa and her snake hair to life is the scales and teeth, done with white and black acrylic paints. Finished off with a wipe free glossy gel top coat.
