Here is this weeks challenge brief -
Gel II's Skyscraper Building Gel and Liquid & Powder nail enhancement systems are the perfect tools to build your own creation from foundation to the top floor! We are asking you to take the name of this product to literal extremes and recreate the skyline of your favorite city across 10 nail tips.
You’re allowed to use gel, acrylic, polish, gel-polish, and acrylic paints to make your 3-D cityscape come to life.
The most recognisable city in Australia is Sydney, so naturally this had to be my first choice.
I recreated the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour bridge, two of the most recognisable city structures in Australia and possibly worldwide!
I chose to paint the base tips with a type of night sky reflection on the water, making sure to include the southern cross stars, which adorn our Australian skies and flag.
I also sculpted a boat in the harbour, and of course a Shark fin, and yes we do have Bull Sharks in the harbour! Gotta love Australia :-)

Sydney opera house - 1. I moulded clay into the shape of the Opera house building 2. I covered the clay with around 3 layers of White Hard Gel curing between layers 3. I created different sizes and filed them into shape.

Sydney Harbour Bridge - 1. I traced over a picture of the bridge onto form paper (using hard gel) 2. I cured in sections to prevent the gel from self levelling too much 3. I finalised by painting with silver gel polish.

Bricks - 1. I firstly sculpted the brick pillars with acrylic 2. I then painted them with a brown gel polish 3. I hand painted the small bricks on top so as they had added texture.

Boat in the harbour - 1. I sculpted the base of the boat 2. I made two strips of gel for the sides 3. I glued them onto the sides of the base (they were flexible to curve around the boat) 4. I placed the base upright and placed a small bead of acrylic to fill in the back 5. I sculpted the sails and glued them into the boat.

Skyscrapers - 1. I made flat rectangular shaped out of acrylic to build my skyscrapers 2. I made 4 sides and with acrylic attached them together 3. I then filled in the top part of the skyscraper 4. I painted them with silver gel polish 5. Using silver foil 6, I covered the building 7. I painted a black gel polish grid for the windows

Base tips - I used sheer black, blue, pink and purple colours to make the tips look the the reflecting water. I continued adding layers and layers until I was happy with the depth of colour.

Here you can see how I attached the pieces, mostly with glue and black acrylic. I also painted the Southern Cross stars under the Sydney harbour bridge. You can see the little shark fin here at the front also (made from acrylic)
