The challenge was for us to use our favorite visual artist as an inspiration to show of who we are as artists. I chose to do Jean-Michel Basquiat. his primitivism and Neo Expressionism style is similar to my organized chaos. he doesn't let borders and perfected techniques define his art, all art is subjective and it doesn't need to be perfectly painted to be an idea. Color splashed about and lines drawn in random places is liberating and that's what I feel Jean-Michel gave to us, the freedom of just saying what we want through random color.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
A set of acrylic stiletto nails is sculpted.

The base polish is applied by using clear and black gel polish and glitter press on the pinky finger and thumb. The two middle fingers have "Peace Love and OPI" and "Kyoto Pearl" blotted on alternately. The same technique was used on the index finger using multiple colors.

Here, I've started painting art on the nails using highly pigmented acrylic paint and gel polish. . The pinky finger has a simple tribal pattern on it, while the two middle fingers have the beginning of what will be a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting. There are two men seemingly connected and one has pills in his chest.

I've now finished the faces and body on the middle fingers and the crown on the pinky finger has been finished with gold on the inside. The index finger has the famous image of Jean-Michel Basquiat's face outlined in black. The thumb has some abstract art on it with the crown often used by early Basquiat to signify honor or respect for the person he was painting.

Here is the finished thumb.
