Hand Painted Tutorial Challenge. My Visual Artist inspiration is Monet. I am very detail oriented and with Claude Monet's painting style, dots and some strokes, I was able to achieve small details and shadows. I have chosen to paint a landscape of my hometown, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada in its seasons. I have never been able to pinpoint my style. So like the seasons, it changes yet it's constant! This is my first time ever hand painting a landscape. I used mostly acrylic paint, and 3 different gel colours/polishes to really make the aurora borealis vibrant and eye-catching! From left to right, the infamous midnight sun to our one 24 hour day sunlight. Transitions into our brief fall to our winter showing off beautiful aurora borealis and our very dark skies, and longest nights. Lastly the thumb features our spring night sky with the glow of a full moon and an Inukshuk, a Northern icon!
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial

Use Neon Purple gel polish/gel colour on white base, paint strokes with thin striper/detail brush to create Aurora Borealis

Use Neon Green gel polish/gel colour in the same motion as step 1. Layer Neon Yellow and a slightly darker green gel polish/gel colour to create depth in the Aurora. Keep layering until you achieve your desired look!

Using a 'camel' brown acrylic paint, start painting in a dotting motion to create the Canvas Tent. Use a mixture between a cream white, and orange to create the glow from the fire burning inside the Canvas Tent

Start from darkest to lightest acrylic paints. In the same dotting motion like Claude Monet's painting style, layer dark blue, then a deep purple, medium blue to light sky blue to blend the sky together from the dark winter nights, to the cold fall sky.

Extending the sky, use a bright yellow and paint a round shape for the 24 hour summer sun. On the left side of the sun, use a mixture between orange, burnt orange and cream white to create the transition into the midnight sun.

Using various shades of green acylic paint, start painting the treeline as the starting point of this nail. Using a mixture between, orange, burnt orange, mustard yellow, painting in a dotting motion, create the glow from the midnight sun in the sky. Mix 2 different shades of grey to create the clouds. Use a dark brown and dark green to paint the reflection of the trees in the lake and a touch of the midnight sun sky above the treeline reflection.

Using various shades of green, paint a couple pine trees on the left, transitioning into big leafy trees on the right as we transition to summer. Follow along the other nails using a dark brown colour to paint leafless trees on the middle finger next to the canvas tent, then dark pine trees on the index finger for our winter scene.

Using a medium blue, painting in a dotting motion create a baseline for the snowy hill. Using a medium grey start painting in dotting motions the outline of the Inukshuk. I painted the proper construction of the Inukshuk! Be sure to paint the correct Inukshuk =)

With a Dark Grey, with a dotting motion paint along the right side of the Inukshuk to create a shadow effect. Work your way into lighter shades of grey into a cream to paint a moon glow falling into the shadows.

Mix a sky blue with some white to create a moonlit snow. With a dark grey paint the shadow of the Inukshuk on an angle to where the moon will be! Mixing a medium blue, with some black start painting the spring night sky. Let some of the white background through to give the sky depth. Layer some lighter shades of blue onto the dark blue. Finish with a cream colour painting a round shape to create the full moon. Layer some shades of white to give the moon some depth!
