here are some photos to help give you an idea of how I created my look. I used acrylic paint for my medium. for this challenge we were not allowed to use anything other than polish, gel polish or paint. no 3d or embellishments were allowed for this competition. we were asked to recreate a NAILS magazine cover and put our own twist on it. I chose April 2011. On the cover of this particular issue, there were 2 hands that had 2 different designs, in 3d! so I decided to combine the 2 designs on one hand (as required) using acrylic paint.

Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial

1
I first polished the nails with nude and white polishes. I then watered down my acrylic paint and gently painted on the oranges and reds to get an uneven ombre look. I then painted vines and leaves overlapping each other. I used a variety of colors to create depth after numerous times of overlapping.

I painted the girl with some vines and a large blossomed flower and the humming bird. I also began adding blue flowers to incorporate the design from the other hand on the cover of the magazine. I used gentle rapid strokes with a fine brush (used for the entire design) to create a very detailed look. also, if you look in the top corner of the nail with the blue flowers, you'll notice a shape of white, this is going to be a bird.

here is a close up of the bird I mentioned in the last photo. I wanted him to stand out a lot, so I used a bright lime green and a lot of blue and white to help him pop out from the background of warm colors

this photo is close to completion. if you notice, the pinky nail has blue flowers that are missing detail. this gives you a good idea of how I started the flowers in this design. I added a few more minor details, such as some more lime green to the leaves prior to applying top coat.

this is the final look with clear top coat, prior to applying them to my model. I love how top coat makes acrylic paint so vibrant. thank you for viewing my photos. stay tuned.
