NTNA Top 3: Manus x Machina (Sponsored by CND), Part Two
The theme for the second part of our challenge was lace. I wanted to continue on the theme from the first part of the challenge (folded nails) and use black and white as main colours. The design of my work is very seductive, thus the name "50 shades of lace".
I used machine made components, like the lace, the fringe and the metal parts on the nails. Everything else is handmade with hard gel, acrylics and gel paints.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial

First I started off by painting the nails nude using gel polish. I mixed black and clear Shellac gel polishes to make the base color for the lace. Add top coat, cure and remove the tack. I painted the edges black and poured black acrylic powder on top of it before curing to make it matte. Clean the powder and paint the lace, then add some powder again before curing. Clean the nail and attach small hooks on the nail using clear builder gel. Add the thread to give the nail a corset-like finish.

Paint the nail with a base color that works best with your lace. I used nude and white. Cut the lace to fit the nail. Add a layer of clear builder gel on top of the gel polish and stick the lace on it. Cure in the UV and add two more layers on top of the lace. File the nail in it's right form and add top coat for shine.

For the ruffle nail you need to seal the threads with flexible top coat so that they won't unravel. Shellac top coat is great in this. Then cut the ruffle in pieces starting from big to small. Layer the pieces in order, attach them with gel polish or glue and attach the ruffle on the nail using acrylic.

Hand painted lace nails really combined the elements together. I mixed Shellac Cream Puff gel polish and top coat to make the sheer base color. Then I painted the white lace outlines with gel paint and sprinkled acrylic powder on it to make it matte (like in the step 1).

First I sketched the masque on a nail form paper. I layered acrylic on top of the paper using an acrylic powder jar under the paper as a form. When the acrylic was dry I filed and buffed it as thin as I could. Then I made it see through by painting both of the sides with clear top coat. I painted the details and once again made them matte using acrylic powder.
