For the first pre-challenge of Season 6, Nails Magazine were asking us to create a mural nail art on 5 nail tip with the theme Day of the Dead. I don't know too much about this holiday, so I started with my research. I made a moodboard with the pictures I liked.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
I made a moodboard with the pictures I liked.

Step 1. I took off the shine from my nail tip with a buffer. Step 2. I painted a lighter grey colored base with acrylic paint and used a soft nail art sponge to make an ombre effect with black paint around it. Step 3. I used a matte top coat and I made my sketches with a pencil.

Step 4. I started with the centre of my art. I painted a white background and used a black and red paint to draw the eyes, nose and lips of my Catrina. Step 5. I painted her eyebrows, eyeballs and used a thinner black paint to make shadows on to her face. Step 6. I painted her eye make up with light pink color, and her eye lashes with black color. Step 7. With black paint I made stitches around her lips, and painted shadows under her cheekbones.

Step 8. I made a white base for the sugar skulls. Step 9. With black paint I made sketches on their faces. Step 10. I painted the details with different acrylic colors.
5
Step 11. I continued with the Catrina's hand, made with white color base, and thinner black color for the shadows. Step 12. I painted the sugar skull's hands as well with the same technique. Step 13. It's time to put the wigs on, so I painted their hairs with green, blue and brown acrylic paints and used a thinner white and black colors to make highlights and shadows.

Step 14. It's flower time! I painted one stroke flowers on to the bottom of my art. Step 15. I used black and red colors to the base petals, and I added more white color to the red for the second layer of petals. Step 16. I made the centre of my rose with a more lighter red and white combination. Step 17. I painted more petals around the centre. Step 18. I made more flowers on to the bottom of the mural.

Step 19. I added leaves to the roses, made with green, yellow and white colors and one stroke technique. Step 20. I started to paint the Catrina's flower crown. In the middle I painted a flower with red, purple, white color combination. Step 21. I continued the crown on the sides with huge purple-white flowers.

Step 22. After the darker colors it was time to make the bright flowers. I started with a dark-light blue combination. I painted the base petals. Step 23. Followed with a white-blue colored petals. Step 24. I made more colorful flowers with pink, red, yellow, orange and white acrylic paints, and added more green-yellow-white colored leaves around these flowers, and in to the flower crown.\n

Step 25. After the paints are dried, I started to add Swarovski crystals and Swarovski pixies to my art. I used my crystal katana to pick up the gems, even the big ones, and I secured them with crystal glue gel. Step 26. When all my crystals was on the tip, I used a non wipe top coat and a short detailing art brush to make sure I'm not touched the crystals with the top coat.
