This weeks sponsor, Orly, has asked us to do a set of wearable nails that is an "Ode to the Sunset Strip". We were asked to use any of the following; Polish, gel polish, acrylic paint and/or embellishments. There is so much history that goes back decades and decades, so I decided to spotlight some iconic places and scenery that would remind us of this kooky place called, The Sunset Strip.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial

My first nail, I wanted to showcase the celebrity status that frequents the strip on a regular basis. I started with a gold polish as the base. I used another gold paint to use as background for the "movie star". I then used a black paint to paint the celebrity and the attention she draws from the paparazzi that is always stalking the celebrities along the strip.

Chateau Maramont is so Iconic on the strip, this had to be showcased. I started with blue background for the sky and white for the Chateau. I then used grays and blues to paint the roof top and green for the surrounding shrubs and garden areas. Lastly, I used black paint to outline the fine details and bring the picturesque Chateau together. Then of course, had to finish with the sign.

I had to include a dance club scene, clubs are all up and down the strip! I started with a black background on my nail. I used a silver paint as the bright lights and club scene that you find anywhere on the strip. I then used a black paint to silhouette my sexy dancer.

Although not directly on the strip, this scene can be seen for miles and miles around Los Angeles and especially on the Strip. I used 2 different blues and ombre'ed them for the skyline. I used black and white polish to use for the Hollywood hills and then yellows and white polish to show the city. I then used glitter polish to use to show the starry night and fine detailed with black paint for the silhouette of the palm trees and white paints for the movie lights behind the hills. Lastly, with a very small brush, I used yellow acrylic paint to paint the sign along the hillside.

Jim Morrison is a legend and use to be a house band at the Whiskey A Go Go. I started with a white polish as background. I used black paint to fine detail first, the outside area around his face, neck and shoulders. I then fine detailed his face and used black paint and water to smudge shadows. I finished with white paint to accent the waves in his hair.

Marilyn frequented the strip in the early days, meeting her suitors for dinner and roaming the town. I started her nail with a white polish. I used black paint to sculpt the outer portions of her face and also shaded using only black paint and water for smudging shadows. Lastly, I used red paint to make her icon beautiful lips pop.

Pandora's Box was a trippy little psychedelic club that featured lots of rock bands back in the 60's. I wanted to used the colors of the original club and use them as a base for this nail. I then marbled these colors, purple, pink and orange, to give it that psychedelic feel. Lastly, I used black paint to silhouette a rock band.

The Rainbow room, another iconic club on the strip. I wanted to paint the marquee that shows up everywhere when I researched the Strip. I started with a white base and then used the colors of the rainbow(and the marquee) and carefully brushed them together to blend. Lastly, I used black paint for the clubs name, The rainbow.

The 1950's film, Sunset Boulevard featured Gloria Swanson. I started this nail with a red polish as background. I then used a black paint for the film strip and white paint to detail the film and white and yellow paint for the movie title. I used a tan polish for Gloria's face, then fine detailed the rest of her face and hair with acrylic paints.

I love the look and logo of The Viper Room. I started with a black polish as the background. Using only white paint, I started with first centering the female serpent. I then took images of the inside of the club and used it to frame my serpent woman.
