NTNA Week 9 - Super Heroes & Villains

I began by sketching out my Superman and Wonder Woman logos and then colored them using acrylic paints. Then added comic style words to the edges including Zap, Pow, Boom and Bang.  

I attached the ten tips using acrylic and finished them with top coat gel polish to give them a glossy finish.  

Using clear acrylic, I built up a crystal rock formation and added some green acrylic together with some glitter and green iridescent mylar to embed bits of kryptonite. I also added a little glow in the dark pigment so that the kryptonite actually glows in the dark. Some brown acrylic was added in patches also.  

I wanted to add shards of kryptonite coming out of the ground so using the same mix of glitters, green and clear acrylic and glow in the dark pigment, I formed several pieces. Then using my e-file, I shaped them to get a sharp crystal edged finish and applied them to my design with clear and green acrylic. I then finished this section with top coat gel polish and cured.  

For my Wonder Woman, I used some light weight modelling clay to form the base of her body and covered her with acrylic. Once dry I used my e-file to give her a more detailed appearance.  

Lex Luthor and Superman were created using the same method. Lex's legs were sculpted using acrylic and shoes were added. I sculpted his, shirt, suit and tie with acrylic.  

To glam up Wonder Woman, I gave her a red glitter corset and matching boots. I applied clear base gel polish and sprinkled/dipped her in glitter and cured. Her briefs were hand painted with blue acrylic paint and white glitter stars were added. For the gold detailing on her corset and her crown, I mixed clear gel polish and gold glitter. Her hair was created with black and brown acrylic and scratched using a needle pen to give a wavy finish.  

Superman's suit was applied using blue acrylic and the logo and detailing were painted with acrylic paint.  

I created Superman's cape using a layer of red gel and the backing paper of a nail form then attached it with a little clear gel.  

Finally, I used the same method to create my captions. A base of clear gel polish was applied to the backing paper of a nail form and cured, I then painted the wording using acrylic paint. Once dry, I flipped it over and used a fork (yes, a fork) and some grey acrylic paint to apply some dots. When this was dry, I applied a layer of white gel polish over the dots. Then removed the tacky residue, cut out the caption box and applied some top coat gel to give it a glossy finish.
