I came at this challenge from a very literal perspective. Every nail is a French Mani, but several strategic feature nails have a bit more. The "LA" hand sign that is so prevalent in visual social media platforms right now wormed it's way into my brain, and much like the "Martini Mani" trend from a few years ago, I thought it would be so cool to have a modern french with feature nails that were visible when making this hand sign. I thought it would look really attractive in photos. As an added, and optional, touch, I added some color to the underside of my right index and thumb so that when you do the "LA" sign, it will show a peep of color.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial

After performing a manicure, apply a thin coat of soak-off gel base coat.

Apply your favorite nude shade of gel polish to all 10 nails. I used 2 layers of CND Shellac in Bare Chemise with a coat of Powder My Nose on top for an opaque finish so I could create my own smile lines.

On the left hand, paint on a deep and elongated smile line on all 5 nails. Extend one side down towards the cuticle and taper it halfway across for a modern look. Cure.

On the left hand, use black acrylic paint to paint two long lines for the trunks of the palms on the index finger. Using a small brush and short strokes, create 5 long "stems" and using the same stroke, paint the smaller leaves on the stems. On the middle finger, use gel polish to draw an L then an A. Use the bottom line of the L bisect the A. Cure. the design. Then top coat and cure again.

On the right hand, using a black or charcoal gel-polish ( I used Overtly Onyx), paint a french in the same shape as you painted on the left, but only on the index and thumb. Cure.

On the middle, ring and pinky, paint the nail starting from about halfway down with a white gel polish. Cure.

Over the white, choose your favorite bright shades of gel polish and paint over the white, one color per each half nail.

Using black gel polish or acrylic paint and paint lines above and below the colored squares, then divide the colors with a black line.

Add white dots to the black lines on top of and below the colored squares to create a film strip look.

For the last step you can either paint on the "Hollywood" text, or do as I did; paint the letters on wax paper with gel polish and cure. Then apply to the nails in the pattern you like.
