Go psychedelic, just go play! This is a design I created for Nails NTNA season 4 pre-challenge #1. We were asked to create an "out of the box", hand-painted design on 5 nail tips using only traditional polish, gel polish, and acrylic paint in honor of CND's new Creative Play lacquer. This was very challenging because it was my first time ever painting a nail art mural. I had loads of fun creating this look. I hope you enjoy my psychedelic NTNA poster!
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
Go psychedelic, just go play! My mood board of vintage band posters that inspired my creation.
2
For my base, I wanted to do a rainbow gradient across my canvas. I created this gradient by swiping a variety of traditional nail polish colors directly onto a makeup sponge and gently dabbing it onto the nails. I did multiple coats, letting each one dry, until the desired opacity was achieved.
3
I'm known for my water marbled nail designs, so I had to incorporate this in some way. I did a flowery, psychedelic water marble on top of my rainbow base using a solid black and a sheer polish. I created a bull's eye by dropping beads of alternating colors onto the water. Colors pictured here are 'Liquid Leather' and 'Rainbow' from China Glaze.
4
After creating my bull's eye, I used a toothpick to swirl the colors into psychedelic flowers.
5
After I swirled my desired print, I dipped the nail into the water and carefully cleaned up the excess polish using an orange wood stick.
6
Once the nails were dry, I created the backdrop for my poster using Wildflower's Art Paints in 'Pitch'.
7
All details on my poster were painted using Wildflower's Art paints and Mini-mini brush.
8
The finished product! I used a small piece of a makeup sponge, tweezers, and 'Pitch' Art Paint from Wildflowers to create an old, distressed look to my poster.
