This is my entry to NAILS "Next Top Nail Artist" first pre-challenge 2015-2016! The theme was "Cover Artist" and we were asked to recreate/be inspired by one of Nails Magazine's covers from over 30 years back to choose from. Not an easy task but when I saw the October 2000 issue, I was sold! In the cover a hand is holding an old looking earth globe and I just knew right away that this was The One. ;)

For the sculpted extensions I used Light Elegance hard gel. I really enjoyed creating this set and it also got an extra little cool twist to it! On my Instagram @celinaryden you'll find a video where I place the nails next to my table lamp and they actually look like a lit up earth globe! So cool! I really hope that you'll enjoy this tutorial and maybe learn something new. :)

Take the sponge and dip it into your acrylic paint using the tweezers. Here I mixed up some gold, bronze, white and yellow to create my base shading where the sea is. When you've finished all fingers, mix up a darker shade and add just a couple of darker details in the sea area, also using the sponge.

To create the countries, mix up a dark brown color (I added some bronze to give it a shiny effect and to add a little bit more life into it) and fill up the spaces you've marked out. Then use the sponge and add some dimension by mixing up darker shades and dab it on. To add even more dimension, make the edges of the countries a little bit darker and finish by outlining them with a teeny tiny back line.

Here's a picture of the thumb where you can see a little bit more of the details. I decided that I of course had to bring Sweden along, so I added a little bit more details where the mountains are, dividing us with Norway and then we have Denmark saying hi at the tip of the nail. ;)

I like to apply a thin layer of "bonder" and then an extra layer of gel just to be sure (if my design would come off at this point just because I didn't seal it properly, I would kill myself. Twice.
