NTNA top 3: Manus x Machina (Sponsored by CND) Part Four
We were asked to create a set inspired by feathers in fashion. We had to include hand and machine made elements and the set was to be made on 10 individual nail tips.
I continued on my color theme from the previous challenges (Folded nails, Fifty shades of lace) and made the nails black and white.
I used dyed feathers and machine made rhinestones on my set for the Machina part of the set and hand made everything else. I painted feathers inspired by water color prints in fashion. I find layers very inspirational in fashion so I layered thin acrylic triangles to resemble feather themed gowns. I made similar 3D feathers using acrylic and brought the set together with the real feathers.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
First paint the nail black using Shellac Black Pool gel polish. Then paint a feather figure using gray gel paint. Touch the paint with acetone to make it spread on the nail. It creates a water colour painted look to it. Cure the nail and add lighter shades of gray to give the feather depth. Paint the details, black outlines and white center.
2
Take a bead of black acrylic and let it dry a while. Then shape the bead pointy and lift the "feather" up and place it on the nail. Layer the feathers until the nail is covered.
3
Paint the nail black and drill two holes on it. Add a feather through the nail and attach it with acrylic. Add another to the other hole and attach it the same way as the other. Add rhinestones on the nail using gel.
4
Paint the nail gray and cure in the uv-light. Paint the tip of the nail lighter gray and use a make up sponge to blend the colors together. Cure the nail. Add a top coat and cure. Draw a feather shape on a nail form paper and add a thin layer of acrylic on the paper. Let it dry a while and bend the acrylic using your fingers. Then cut the feathers edges using scissors. Paint the feather white and add the painted details. Add a matte top coat and attach the feather on the nail using gel
