Drop Dead Gorgeous is the first pre-challenge sponsored by Swarovski Crystals.
Day of the dead is a Mexican holiday that gathers family and friends to pray and celebrate loved ones that have passed.
I chose to portray a tragic love story across my five nail tips. Her face is painted to honor her lover that has passed. There are bright colours, patterns and gems to represent the altar she would have made in honor of him. Their hands are just out of reach from eachother, representing the barrier between them.
This theme was so fun to make. My husband and I got married in Mexico, and we have our own special sugar skull to represent that day.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
My first tip i painted black. Then I painted my pattern in white, so the brighter colours would "pop" more and not be darkened by the black background.
2
On the second tip, I started painting her face. It takes many layers to add the dimension and detail. I flash cure each layer so what I just painted wont move. When the pattern is complete around her, I added my Swarovski Crystals.
3
I painted the skull the same way as I painted the woman. Starting with layers of small details. Then surrounding the skull with my original pattern and then Swarovski crystals.
4
I started with the skeleton hand. I cured it and then worked on the human hand. Once that was painted and cured, i surronded them with my pattern and then also surrounded them in crystals. Once that was done, I went back in with a silver holographic glitter, surrounding the hands to make them pop more.

The last step was to add a mural of crystals on the first and last tip. I planned out my pattern before sticking them on the nail. I ended up adding more to the first nail, and also adding crystal pixies. I wanted it to look like the jewels were placed at an altar as an offering to the dead.

Here is the final piece! Thank you Nails Magazine for giving me this opportunity to show you what I can create.
