This week in NAILS Next Top Artist competition, we were asked to do a 1950s inspired design. The 1950s...This was when fashion, makeup and femininity became highly popular! Back then, it was all about clean lines and that hour glass figure, this has GOT to be the most fierce period! So I thought I'd play on that for this week's challenge, including the two iconic Vogue Magazine covers....hope you enjoy!
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
Prepare natural nails, and use forms to perform a gel sculpture set for this design
2
File and shape the gel extensions into Squalettos.
3
Vogue Magazine Covers- Starting with White background, outline the eyebrow, eye, and lips
4
...add shading where necessary
5
Moving on to the next cover, outline accordingly
6
...add in additional detail and shading to the portrait

And here you have the two most iconic Vogue Magazine covers of the 1950s!\n\nNext up, color the remainder of the nails a muted gray and add white polka dots. Here I used OPI's Did You 'ear About Van Gogh and white acrylic paint.
8
For the thumb, paint a silhouette of a 1950s pin up girl with black acrylic paint. Use top coat to seal the paint.
9
Using acrylic to sculpt the two dresses, and paint details on them as you wish. The possibilities are endless here! Then secure dresses onto nails and add fine details like the necklace and the stand. \n\nClean up accordingly and seal the design with UV Top Coat!

....and here we have it! A sophisticated 1950s inspired design!
