To me, the 80s were all about the clothes: bold patterns, funky neons, and gold accents! I based this design on a gloriously tacky sweater vest my aunt had when I was a kid. Eye-searingly bright, her sweater vest represents everything I loved about the 80s. So bad it was actually good!
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
For this design you'll need the following: black and white polish, three neon colors (your choice!), detail brush, small dotting tool, and small gold square studs.
2
Start by painting the nail white. I used two coats of OPI "Alpine Snow."
3
With your detail brush, paint a slightly off-centered Y-shape in black (OPI "Black Onyx"). Curve the "Y" in at the top of the nail to mimic the neckline of your sweater vest.
4
Add zig-zags to separate each half of the vest into several sections.
5
Fill in those sections with your neon colors. (Colors used: Color Club "Chelsea Girl" - blue; Finger Paints "Warhol Wannabe" - pink; LeChat Dare to Wear "Happy Hour" - yellow)
6
Add white polka dots with your dotting tool, alternating sections.
7
Using your detail brush, paint random "U" shapes and "C" shapes to form cheetah spots on the remaining sections. Fill in the center of these shapes with white to make the design pop!
8
This sweater vest wouldn't be complete without buttons! Place the gold square studs however you like down the front of your vest and seal in your design with topcoat. Add a matte top coat (Essie "Matte About You") to remove shine and give your sweater vest more of a fabric-like texture. Done!
