Our first challenge was Bewitching Hour sponsored by Swarovski. We had to create Halloween nail art inspired by our favorite witch using a mix of hand painting, 3D elements and Swarovksi crystals to create our looks.

I knew right away that I was going to be doing my set based off Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I grew up watching the show and just recently watched them all again. I searched through photos from the TV show to help me decided on what I wanted to do for my set and after some searching I decided that I also wanted to include a little from the animated series and from the CGI series. Once I knew what I wanted to include from each show I mentally planned out what I wanted the set to look like.

First I painted 3 nails black and 2 nails white using gel polish. Cured them and buffed them.

For the hand painting part I outlined the shape for both Salem and Sabrina using gel polish, cured the outline. Then filled in the design, cured. After I had the basic look down I went in and added all of the detail and then finished the design with a matte top coat. Then I went back in with a thicker gel for Salems whiskers and Sabrinas eyelashes to make them stand out a little more. Once it was cured I went over it with acrylic paint and then sealed it again with a matte top coat.

For the black nails I wanted a minimal look to them since I would be adding my 3d elements to them. I went in first with a white gel polish and dotted it in a swirly pattern to mimic her spell casting effect that happens in the show. Once the white was cured I added in some purple dots over it then sealed them all with a matte top coat.

For the 3d elements I started off with the basic shapes. \nThe witches hat I used black acrylic.\nFor the spell book and broom I mixed colored gel with acrylic together so I could make it almost a 3d gel like consistency to make it easier for me to manipulate into the shapes I wanted. \nOnce they looked how I wanted them to I cured in the UV light.

For the witches hat I went back in with the black acrylic to shape it more like an actual witches hat. Then I filled the bottom part so it would be so straight and had more of a flow. \nOn the broom and spell book I used gel polish to add in my details and then topped them off with a matte top coat.

For the "magic" spirals coming from behind the spell book I used a straw and put gel around it in a spiral design. Then I added a glitter gel and top coated the design and slid off the spirals.

Once I had all my 3d elements done I used acrylic to place them on my nail tips.

Once they were all placed I used the Swarovski crystals and crystal pixies to the set. I added the crystal pixies on the white spaces on Sabrina and Salem. I also used them on Sabrinas dress and on the spell casting designs. \nI added a gel top coat on the hat and placed the crystals were I wanted them, then cured.

For the final step I went back I added star Swarovski crystals since I felt like I needed more sparkle. I also went back to the spell book and added more detail and added the pixies in the spots where the jewels are placed on her book from the TV show.
