NTNA Week2 Akzentz

1. I started the corner pieces by laying a thin, even layer of Akzentz gel on leftover free form paper. Cure. I then filed the sides to achieve crisp, clean edges. Ignore the rectangles, I didn't end up using them ;).\n  

2. Since this challenge only allows the use of gel, gelpolish, and acrylic paint, that is all that I used. For a majority of the nails I polished the base color with gelpolish (corner pieces, too) to match the main color of a monopoly board game. After two coats, curing after each coat, i applied a gel top coat to seal in the color. Then, using a thin striper and black acrylic paint, i painted a line down one side of the nail, and then horizontally. With a small, clean brush dipped in acetone, i removed certain lines. This is why I top coated, in case i mess up or need to change something. \n  

3.Following the traditional colors of the properties on Monopoly, i filled in the smaller boxes with the corresponding acrylic paint. I also added trains and chance question marks, along with little scribbles to resemble the print on the game board.\n  

4. When painting small detailed pieces, i start with lighter colors and move on to darker colors. For example, very carefully, i outlined the red with black acrylic paint, let it dry completely, and gel top coat and cured. I did the same for each corner piece, as well as outlining the edges with black acrylic paint.\n  

5. Using Akzentz Bling On! I attatched the corner pieces to the nails, along with a single swarovski crystal at the top of each nail, and then cured.\n  

6. For the character nails, I applied two coats of White gel polish, curing after each coat, and gel top coat. I then painted a rough outline of each character with black acrylic paint. Then I filled in with different acrylic colors to achieve the characters' personality. I let them completely dry, then applied gel top coat and cured to seal the work.\n  

7. Then, with Akzentz gel, i sculpted various monopoly shapes and cured. For more dimension, I added more layer by layer, curing between each layer. Then I filed the edges clean. Using Akzentz Bling On! I attatched the pieces to the corresponding characters and cured.\n  

8. With acrylic paint, I painted the 3D pieces, let them completely dry, then gel top coated and cured. For Bender's monocle, I mixed gel top coat and a small drop of blue gel polish at a 3:1 ratio, to achieve a glass look. Then, I outlined the monocle with gold gel, painted his top hat with black gel polish and cured. I painted his cigar with acrylic paint, let completely dry, gel top coated and cure. (sensing a trend here, hehe) I took a bit of the smallest gold chain i could find and adhered one end to the monocle and the other to tuck inside his door with CND's nail adhesive. As for Fry's fingers, I used a mixture of Akzentz Gel Play and Akzentz Gel Art Powder and layered each finger, curing between each layer. Then painted with acrylic paint, let dry completely, and gel top coated and cured. For Zoidberg, I sculpted his claw with gel, filed, painted with acrylic paint, let dry completely, and gel top coated and cured. \n  

9. For the ring fingers, I chose the Monopoly man and Leela's alien pet, Nibbler. I decided to keep the base color the same as the other nails, and using black acrylic paint, i painted the two. Then i added some lines to balance the design, and a couple swarovski crystals on each nail. I especially like the tiny crystals on the Monopoly man's buttons.\n
