When I saw this challenge I knew right away that a typical skyline simply just won't do. Gel II is known for being innovative and thinking outside of the box, so I wanted to reflect that. It just so happened that this past weekend was the premiere of The Walking Dead, and I am a huge fan! So I chose Atlanta, Georgia, and decided to give this skyline a gorey spin! Imagine this souvenir globe being purchased and left behind in the post-apocalyptic world, broken by a zombie coming out of the ground with Rick Grimes aiming to serve and protect! THAT, my friends is my interpretation of this skyline challenge. I think this piece turned out GORE-TASTICALLY, and I hope you like it!
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
Ahh, the post apocalyptic Atlanta City....I used this photo as my inspiration for the piece
2
Building blocks- Using folded form backing as one of the methods, I sculpted a few iconic buildings in Atlanta to coincide with the poster
3
To build the base of the globe, I measured the size according to the tips and created a circular base using builder gel. I then apply a dark grey and some glitter of course!
4
Globe Assembly: After securing each building, I added colour details with acrylic paint. Using acrylic, I sculpted tiny little cars to reflect the post apocalyptic traffic. Using a combination of flocking Powder and green crushed shells, i made the hedges on the side of the highway.
5
Tips: I wanted this to look grossly realistic. So I glued the tips together and coloured them brown using the dry brush technique. I then sponged on a seafoam green colour. Prior to curing, I dab on my premixed flocking powder. Cure for 30 seconds under LED light. OMG GRASS!
6
Zombie hand: Starting with using tin foil as mould, I sculpted the zombie's hand. using acrylic paint, I painted on the deteriorating skin/scar, and added additional acrylic around the wound to give that extra dimension. Finish off the hand with adding fingers and final blood splattering details
7
Next we have the finishing touches. Using a balloon, I poured gel all over it to get that round sphere shape to imitate the globe. I then cut up the sphere. Here you can also see a sculpted Rick Grimes, Welcome to Atlanta sign and the broken backdrop for the globe.
8
It's ASSEMBLY TIME! Using glue, I carefully assembled all the pieces together.
9
ET VOILA!! A post-apocalyptic skyline.
