I chose this cover because of the gold fish. I love koi fish and the symbolism that it stands for. The gold fish is a direct family member of the Asian carp, so of course I gravitate towards this picture. Plus I am a Capricorn, and born in the month of January just like this issue, which was in 2001. I also loved how this was the first ever Nail Tech cover contest! Angie Perez had some of the same futuristic goals as I currently have now. I want to be able to hold the title as a celebrity manicurist and be an educator for a powerful and goal oriented company. I used my interpretation of the nail color Angie picked for the models nails as the background and painted the goldfish and added a little treasure chest with all the jewels and bling I could put on the nails without actually adding anything.
Step-by-Step Nail Art Tutorial
1
I tried to mimic the Essie polish Angie used as the background color and incorporate it in the design element
2
I traced the outline of the goldfish to make the colors pop on the background
3
I added the orange and yellow shading
4
I then shaded the fins to make it have movement when I add color and give it a look of transparency
5
I added the finer details and adding a shading from the background color into the scales along with 3 coats of a glitter polish to make it pop!
6
I drew out a treasure chest on the lonely thumb because all great gold fish bowls has one..
7
I added shading and color and added as much bling as I could and without really adding jewels like I would love to do! oh and everyone needs a skull to guard the booty
8
I coated the gold in the chest with a shimmer polish to give it some shine

Okay, so make sure when you paint a canvas over more than one nail to make a whole photo.. you are willing to hold that pose perfectly, because soon your hand will cramp up from all of the photo taking!! lol

Another lighted shot of the details in the design
